Andy's Birthday

This is what resulted from my WOYWW? yesterday.  Fortunately yesterday's picture was taken before I got started to make the card as, before I had finished, I seemed to have a trail of pieces of card from the cupboard under the stairs in the sitting-room to the dining-room table.  I hate throwing away left over pieces of card, no matter what size they are, as they can be used with the small quickutz dies.  The result is that I have two big tubs of scrap card, all sorted in to bags of various colours, which has gathered since I first started card making.  Although I have no hesitation in cutting several layers of card for matting and layering a topper or project I can't throw away that small corner that might come in useful one day.

I managed to make the four square hobbies and interests themed card that I'd hoped to make.  The top right corner has a hill walking theme.  The backing paper is from a printable map of the walks on Bennachie, Aberdeenshire which Elaine and Andy walked to the top of earlier this year.  The walking boot is a Quickutz die.

Top Tip Tuesday - To get the aged leather look on the die cut it was embossed using the very worn Big Shot cutting mat and then sponged with Stampin' up chocolate chip ink.

The bottom right theme is photography as it was through this interest that they met at an evening class.  Their teacher was delighted that "love" had blossomed on his course and more delighted that they have gone back and joined his camera club.  The camera embellishment is also a Quickutz die.  I also added a picture of the two of them taken in August during their holiday in Canada.

The theme of the top left corner is DIY.  Andy is working his way around his house to get it fitted and decorated to his taste so there is alway some sort of DIY project on the go.  The tool box and mini tools were made using Quickutz dies and the backing card has a woodgrain effect on it.

The bottom left corner represents Andy's interest in gardening.  He and Elaine are committed to looking after our planet and nature as much as possible and one aspect of this is how he is developing his garden and the plants he's being "advised" to buy by Elaine so that they are bee and butterfly friendly.  Quite brave of her really as she runs shrieking at the hint of a buzz.  The gardening tools and seed packet embellishments were make using Quickutz dies and the green card represents their green way of thinking.

With all the Quickutz die cutting there were lots of little bits of card all over the place.  This little 6"x6" card made an epic mess and now an epic posting.  I also made use of my favourite backing stamp at the moment, the Hero Arts canvas stripe stamp, to decorate corners, the sentiment and backing layers.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges.
