Penny Black Saturday Challenge Week 171 - Down on the Farm

This is my attempt at this week's Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The theme this week is Down on the Farm but unfortunaltely I have no Penny Black sheep, cows, pigs, hens or ponies stamps and I'm convinced I have a Christmas goose somewhere but could I find him.  He's obviously realised that it's that time of year again and gone in to hibernation.  I'm stretching the brief this time in the hope that a farm cat will be acceptable and I've made up a poem to plead her case.

Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat
Down on the farm,
Keeping the corn bags
From coming to harm.
You catch all those mice,
You're wise and you're witty,
But still you have time
To sit and look pretty.

The image I've chosen for this one is the Penny Black stamp You are the Bestest and it's coloured with Promarkers.  This is the first Penny Black slapstick stamp I've bought and I really like it.  It gave as good an impression as all the wooden stamps I've got.  I attempted to use the layout from this week's Sketch Saturday challenge but I didn't like what I came up with and adapted it to this one.  The colour inspiration came from this weeks Penny Black at Allsorts Challenge which is a picture inspiration.

The Happy Birthday, orange gingham and a patterned paper hidden under the flowers are all from a Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Orange.  The yellow gingham paper was from a Crafter's Companion CD.  The flower embellishments were made using the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Sizzix die and a Tonic small flower punch.  As per usual there's a bow and some crystal peeloff dots and brads to add some bling.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges.

WOYWW?

Thank you to those who stopped past last week and left a comment.

This is my picture for WOYWW? this week and it's a bit of what was there last week.  My ATC swap for this month is still a work in progress but it has moved on as I've decided what the layout is going to be and all the bits and pieces I need to make eight ATCs are prepared and ready to put together.  At the bottom left corner you can see how I'm hoping they will turn out.  Our monthly meet isn't until Saturday so I've got until them to put them together so there's no need to panic yet.  Why is it when you have a month to make something you still leave it until the last few days.

Not going to waffle on today as I got carried away in the last two postings.  Hope you all have a good crafting week ahead and look forward to seeing what's on all the tables this week.

Thanks for reading today.

Three for the Girls

Recently I've done a Three Little Boys and  Three Big Men postings but today it's Three for the Girls.  I've had a sorting out of my purple scraps of card, the bits you save just in case, and cut out as many flowers as I could using Tim Holtz's Tattered Flower die.  These are the cards I made using them and two of the cards went in the post this past week as it was a friend's daughter's birthday on Sunday and it's a friend's Mum's birthday today.  Happy Birthday Gracie.  The other one is earmarked for another friend's daughter next month.

Some of the flowers were embossed using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder to add some texture and to add depth the flowers were layered and some have had ink sponged around the edges of the petals.  The same ink was used to sponge around the edge of the scalloped card blank.  From the little bits of card which were too small to make a flower I punched a half inch circle and shaped it on a pricking mat using the Glitter Girls's embossing tool to make the flower centre.  A foam pad was used to attach it to the flower.

The Happy Birthday backing paper came from a Cuddly Buddly download  A Patchwork of Papers - Purple and square nestabilities dies were used to cut the backing pieces.  To add a little bling purple metallic elastic from Hobbycraft was tied around the side and a few hollographic peeloff dots were added here and there.

Off to the Crafting Bee at Carol's today.  I'm hoping to create a bit more than I did last week as I only managed along for a couple of hours.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges

Visited the Land of Sugar .........

Although it was a pouring day of rain on Saturday I ended up having a lovely day out.  Firstly I met up with my Mum, secondly we visited the Paper Crafts Boutique in Elgin which is the home of Sugar Nellie and thirdly we saw two very talented ladies, Jenny and Erika, demonstrating there.

I hadn't seen my Mum in over a year so when she said she was travelling down to Inverness and Lossiemouth last week the opportunity to meet up at the weekend couldn't be missed.  Unfortunately I got a shock when I saw her as she'd taken a tumble her first night away and had basically landed on her nose.  Apart from her nose the main damage seemed to be to her glasses which were badly scratched.

We spent the morning going round and round the craft shop looking at all the goodies.  I don't know how many circuits we must have done but there was loads to see and watch.  Jenny passed on lots of tips and techniques on how to use embossing folders in our card making.  She was also using Promarkers to colour the new Sugar Nellie Christmas stamps which led both Mum and I to buying a couple each of us.  I couldn't resist those penguins after seeing Jenny's card or Furry Friends.  You can see them in my purchases picture below.  It was Mum's first Sugar Nellie stamp purchase and she went on to start her Promarker collection too.  The staff in the shop were so helpful in advising her on which pens to select.

Erika was demonstrating the new sets of Nestabilities dies.  She had several beautiful projects on display showing how the dies could be used in combination to create decorations, decorated canvases, cards, wreathes, banners and 3D baubles and snowflakes.  I am in awe of her talent to be able to create these projects and to see first hand how the different sets could be used together.  There was so much to take in on Saturday that I'm hoping that she'll be posting some of her projects on her blog.  I went home with a couple of canvases, one for my daughter and one for myself , to attempt to decorate and apart from a pack of cards that was my purchases for the day.  Mum however didn't hold back and is away back to Orkney with a variety of goodies to add to her crafting stash.

After taking a break and having lunch at Christies Garden Centre in Fochabers we did some other shopping in Elgin and then went back to the craft shop for a final circuit before calling it a day.  I think we both had a lovely day and the adrenalin was still flowing so much that I didn't fall asleep on the drive back to Aberdeen but did sleep like a log that night.

Special thanks must go to my hubby who drove us around all day and when he wasn't driving he waited in the car, reading his book, whilst the rain poured down outside.  His patience was much appreciated by two happy ladies.
