Second Pink Stitched Card

This is the second version in pink of the stitched oval and topper made using the dies from the Joy Crafts Wedding Collection 6002/1011 set and this one was for a friend's grandaughter.

The patterned papers for this card were printed from the Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Pink and the Nitwit Collection Thimbles and Threads.  Shades of pink card were used to matt and layer behind the patterned papers, the embroidered frame and topper.

Pink grosgrain ribbon, self adhesive pearls and holographic butterfly stickers were added as embellishments.  Before being added to the card the butterflies were attached to acetate, cut out and had their wings folded back to give a 3D effect.  This was one of the first techniques I picked up from watching Dawn Bibby on her QVC crafting shows.

The Happy Birthday sentiment was die cut from pink and silver mirricard using a set of Britannia dies which were layered to create a shadow effect before being attached to the card.

Pink Stitched Oval

A girly pink version of the stitched oval topper and frame from the Joy Crafts Wedding die set 6002/1011 was used for this card which was made for a cousin's daughter.

The card was matt and layered in the same way as in the previous post but the topper was attached using foam pads to add depth. The patterned papers were attached vertically in this one and both papers were printed from the Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Pink.

Corner embellishments were cut and embossed using the Marianne Creatables die set Corners 1 LR0143 and pink self adhesive pearls and satin ribbon were also added to the card.

The pink colourway worked to make a light and fresh card.

Stitching Dies

This post is the first of many using stitching dies.  I've always liked stitching, or using thread on cards, but sometimes the process of pricking out the pattern was frustrating especially when the stencil moved and the holes of the pattern went out of alignment.  On finding sets of dies which embossed the pricking patterns in one pass through the die cutting machine, along with layering dies to co-ordinate, was a dream and so began an obsession.  The obsession was not in collecting dies but in making monochrome cards in various shades of colours.

The first set I bought was from the Wedding collection by Joy Crafts - Cutting, Embossing and Embroidery stencil  6002/1011.

  

Made in my favourite crafting colour this card was for a crafting buddy.  When making a monochrome card I enjoy gathering together the embellishments and card I might use to make it.

Different tones of purple and lilac thread were used for embroidering the main frame and topper.  The die which allows you to cut out the topper was used to cut two pieces of contrasting purple card which were layered behind it so that there was a contrast against the stitched frame behind.

The die allowing you to cut out the embroidered frame was used to cut a single piece of purple card which was layered behind the frame so that the die cut sections stood out against the backing paper. The backing papers for this card were printed from the Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Purple.

Marianne die cut corners were used as embellishments along with shades of purple self adhesive pearls, mulberry roses and grosgrain ribbon.

Marianne Floral Square Cards

Still a Marianne floral die theme in this post but a change of colour and shape.  These two cards were made for a crafty friend and a friend's daughter.

Three sets of Marianne flower dies were used to make up these flowers with Craftwork Cards Candi added to their centres.

Backing squares for the flowers were cut using Spellbinders plain and scalloped square dies and navy thread was wrapped around the corners of the scalloped squares to add an extra frame.  The same navy thread was used to add a stitched border around the squares.

The patterned papers used for the little squares and the backing layer were printed from the Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Blue. The sentiment was stamped using a Stampin' up rubber stamp and their plain and scalloped oval punches were used to punch it and it's backing layer out.

The only embellishments added were little blue self adhesive pearls and navy grosgrain ribbon.

Second Floral Wreath

Along with purple, jade green is one of my favourite colours to craft with so here's another jade green floral wreath for this post and this one was made for an Auntie.
 

The wreath was assembled using the same dies as in the previous post along with the same cardstock and backing papers. This time the sentiment was stamped using a Stampin' up rubber stamp and ink and then punched out and layered using their plain and scalloped oval punches.

The only additional item to this card were transparent sequin flowers which had crystal sticker dots added to their centres.

Marianne Floral Wreath

It's been a long time since a post has been added to this blog and as time goes on I'm beginning to realise how useful it is sometimes to have a record of what you've made, what was used to make it and who it was given to.  Most of the new items made since the last posting have been photographed so I'm going to attempt to try a catch up and record them here.  There are a lot of repetitions to come when inspiration and motivation went out the window but also because of a love of stitching on paper.

The first card to share was for a friend and was made using the following Marianne flower dies and a Tonic small flower punch to create a floral wreath.

Spellbinder circle dies were used to cut and layer the sentiment which was printed from the computer and grand nestabilities circle dies were used to cut the base for the wreath.

To continue the jade green monochrome look for this card backing papers were chosen from the Nitwit Collection Snow Princess Solids.  A stitched border was added to the patterned papers to further frame the wreath.

Only a few extra embellishments were added as the flowers did most of the work on this card.  Along with ribbon, brads and pearls a few crystal stickers were attached to the centres of the small punched flowers.

Thankfully the process of creating a post hasn't changed so this hasn't been too challenging a task and hopefully I'll get back soon with some more cards to share.

Wedding Gift for Elaine

I wanted to give Elaine a personal keepsake gift on her wedding day and selected a Sheila Fleet pendant from the Daisies for Emily collection. This was an item on her wish list but I also chose it because it was designed to help a very special young lady.  In the link below you can read about why the collection was created and how significant the humble little daisy is to the designer herself.

To add a personal touch to the gift I made a daisy themed faux book box to put it in. The measurements and instructions used to make it can be found on the blog I Wanna Build Me a Memory.

  

A daisy design paper from the Cuddly Buddly Yellow Country Cottage Collection was layered up along with shades of green and cream pearlescent card to make a base layer on the outside cover and the inside of the box. Attached across the front and back of the cover were layered strips of the same card selection and foam pads were used to add die cut hearts on top of these. The wording on the hearts was printed from the computer and then Spellbinder heart dies were used to cut them out.

Attaching the hearts using foam pads left a channel to hold the ribbon used to tie the box closed. The ribbon was also threaded through a diamante heart ribbon slider which was fixed to the spine to secure the ribbon to the box.

 

 

A pocket was made on the inside of the cover and this was to hold a set of layered tags.  After finding a daisy poem on the internet I tweeked it to personalise it for our gift and the occasion, printed it from the computer and cut it out using a set of Sizzix framelit tag dies.

   

On the opposite side was the framed space to put the gift in. To link it to the words in the poem the message “He Loves You” was added to the back of the space and underneath where the gift would be. Daisy patterned strips were used to frame the space, and also to hide the joins of the concertinaed sides, and they were given a decorative edge using Martha Stewart's doiley lace border punch.  A border was added to the frame using thin strips of the dark green card.

Different sizes of Woodware punches along with Joanna Sheen's rose leaves die were used to make the daisy embellishments. After overlapping and gluing two of the daisies together the edges of the petals were sponged with pale green ink and a flat backed pearl was added to the centre. Continuing with the daisy theme the pocket holding the tags was embossed with a daisy patterned embossing folder.

 

Elaine was delighted with her daisy pendant and wore it everyday whilst on honeymoon. This is my favourite photo of her wearing it and below that is a photo collage Elaine made showing most of the Sheila Fleet jewellery which played a part in their wedding day.  As a thank you gift from Elaine and Andy I received a necklet, which you can see me holding in the bottom right of the collage, and Andy's mum received a brooch.  Both were from the Snowdrop Collection.

  

This really is the last post about bits and pieces I made for Elaine's wedding. I hope you have enjoyed reading about them as much as I have enjoyed making a written record of them.
