This is a card I've made for a friend's daughter and today Rachel's birthday sees the end of her teenage years. Although born in Aberdeen, Rachel has grown up in Colwyn Bay and is now making ready for her second year of studies in Cardiff. During the summer Alan and I have been visiting NTS properties in the local area and the last one we were at was Haddo House. I've visited it once before and that was with two friends and their children when we all had a great day out rolling Easter eggs and having a picnic. At eighteen months Rachel was the baby of the group on that day.
Rachel's card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest by Deborah Wright. Follow this link to read the posting on her blog Wrightcrafty as there are two other cards to view in this style. I liked how she had used sections from various Stampin' up stamped images to build up the main topper for the card.
The stamps used on Rachel's card are pictured below from the Stampin' up sets Charming, Fresh Vintage, Papillon Potpourri, Pocket Silhouettes and Baroque Motifs. All were stamped with Encore Metallic ink in purple on to white cardstock. The script stamp was used to overstamp the images using the stampamajig as a positioning guide.
Once the images were stamped, nine sections were die cut using a Spellbinders square die. Backing layers were cut from lilac pearlescent card using a Spellbinders scalloped square die and, after being layered up, lilac thread was wrapped around the corners of four of them. These nine squares made up the top tier of the card
The middle tier was the backing panel for the squares which was lilac card and patterned papers layered up with a grid of nine five centimetre squares stitched on to the top layer. The stamped images were attached to the centres of these squares using foam pads. Foam pads were also added to the back of the completed panel before it was attached to the card.
The bottom layer was also made up from layers of lilac cardstock and patterned papers. The patterned papers on this card are from the Nitwit Collection Promises and also from the Pink Petticoat Colour Collection Little Swirls in the lilac colourway.
Ribbon was wrapped around the corners of the bottom layer and a bow added to the top layer. Other embellishments added were self adhesive pearls, sequin butterflies and corners cut using a Quickutz die.
An insert created on the computer was added to the inside. I can see this layout becoming a favourite of mine and I've already made another in this style which I'll share soon.
Thanks for reading today
