WOYWW?

 

Thank you to everyone who came past my post for WOYWW? last week and left a comment.

This is what I've captured for WOYWW? this week.  Three projects started but nothing nearly finished.  On the left are bits and pieces I've gathered and have started to make another of those Coppernob Elegant Shoe cards.  I've already made five this year and had thought that was the lot but a new lady joined our Saturday crafting group and it's her Ruby Anniversary next month.  At least it will be a different colour scheme this time seeing as the other cards were three Pearl and two Silver Anniversary shoe cards.

In the middle of the picture are bits and pieces I've gathered to make the October ATCs for our Saturday crafting group but nothing started yet.  The theme this time is Hallowe'en which I'm sure you would have guessed from what's on the table.  After looking at someone else's desk last week I remembered I had the small moon stamp and thought I might be able use it in the layout. 

On the right is what I've gathered together to make my entry for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge which this week is Monochromatic. Hopefully there will be a pink creation ready to enter before the deadline on Friday night.  

Had a little spend this past week and today Postie brought the Penny Black stamp "Cheesecake Parade" which I bought on ebay and also the 2011 Heirloom Ornaments from Spellbinders.  After seeing Erika's demos. on Saturday I decided to treat myself.  I love the way it can be used flat, tiered and 3D.  More to play with.

Right, I'd better away and see if I can complete something out of this mish mash before next WOYWW?  Hopefully it all won't still be sitting there.  Happy crafting to everyone until next week.

Crafting Bee and UFO

Off to meet the Crafting Bee girls today at Carol's .  No theme this week, just bring something along and see what we get inspired by.  Last week Ann's crafting was going in fits and starts.  She needed to make a wedding card but what she planned to do didn't quite work.  The pale pink ink seemed too pale and the heart embellishments were lost on the 8x8 card front so she decided to wait until Heather joined us later so that she could help her make a three tiered wedding cake for the front of her card.  At one of our last meetings Heather made a stunning wedding card for her neighbour's son and his bride. The cake topper was simply made from three rectangular pieces of card embossed, embellished and glamour dusted but was so effective.  Heather is our glamour dust queen.  Having abandoned that Ann decided to make a stepper card using instructions from the latest edition of Making Cards.  Between the two of us we managed to work out where to mark and measure and where to score and cut.  That bit over she went on to make a lovely Christmas card using beautiful Martha Stewart Christmas papers from a 12x12 pad and a decoupaged piece from her Fizzy Moon decoupage pad.  Both she and I have bought this pad but whereas I've only put the decoupage pieces together, she's made a card.  Since the meeting I have followed her lead and made my first stepper card although it's still not a Christmas one.

I managed to finish off the card above from my UFO (UnFinished Object)  box.  This is a term I've recently learned from Sandra from our Saturday crafting group.  I've always had a box of bits and pieces and cards which I've started but not got finished but have never named it until I heard Sandra speak of her UFO box.  The decoupage piece and smarties backing paper are from the Forever Friends CD and the embossed frame around it was created on the Fiskars Shapeboss.  One of the first crafting tools I bought.  The smarties on this are half inch circles punched from scraps of pearlised card and shaped on a foam mat with the Glitter Girls's embossing tool.  I even coloured the Bling Bling pearls with Promarker pens so that they looked like smarties.  As well as doing this I did the colouring for my Penny Black Saturday Challenge card and put together some Christmas decoupage from a kit I bought from Create and Craft a couple of years ago.  It's a lovely kit and with a little bit more glittering and inserts added it will make forty cards.

Sandy and Carol were busy making post it pad covers with pen holders with a view to selling them at a car boot sale or donating to charity.  Both of them have made quite a collection and are having fun using up bits and pieces from their stash and Carol's been trying out stamps she's never used before.  Since our last meeting Sandy had bought herself a Hougie board and was finding that this was speeding up her production line.

Heather had a production line going on too as she was making Christmas pudding embellishments for her Christmas cards.  Of course the tops had a coating of glamour dust and Heather herself was quite sparkly by the end of the evening.

Crafty Day

 

On Saturday our Crafting Bee group went along to Linda's "Welcome Christmas with the Shades of Frost" craft class at the Ashdale Hall in Westhill.  Linda, who is a Stampin' up deomonstrator, recently joined our Crafting Bee and has inspired some of us to start scrapbooking.  She's originally from Finland but because of her husbands career in the army they are now here in Aberdeen with their two little boys and on Saturday she announced that there is another little one on the way.

At the class we made two Christmas cards, a pillow gift box and a keyring post-it-note holder using papers, card, stamps, ink, ribbon, embossing folders, dies, elastic cord, punches and gems from the Stampin' up range.  In the picture I've included an extra pillow box, on the right, which we made when Linda had a demonstration night at Ruth's.

It was a lovely relaxed morning with a lovely group of ladies.  It had an international flavour as although most of us were from the local area we were joined by Lorna who has recently moved from America to live in Westhill.  Hopefully she found us a friendly bunch and has been invited to join our Crafting Bee.

In the afternoon I headed off to the Papeterie as Erika Gunter, who is a demonstrator for Personal Impressions, was there for the day.  I'd been unable to go along in the morning with the Saturday crafting group but Lorraine, Susan Norma and Brenda were still there when I arrived at just after two o'clock and they'd been there since ten in the morning.  There was more exciting news revealed here as Erika had recently visited to the QVC studios to try out as a demonstrator and passed the test.  We may be able to view her talents from the comfort of our armchairs shortly.

Erika's theme was also Christmas and she made lovely cards of various shapes and folds involving a variety of techniques such as die cutting, using distress inks and distress ink pads, stamping and colouring and the beautiful My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Christmas papers she used on her projects just completed the package.  Her blog is well worth a view and some of the cards she made on the day are explained there too.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge Week 169 - Friendship

 

This is my entry for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this week where the theme is Friendship.  The image used in this one is the Penny Black stamp Squeeze 'til I Squeak, from the Margaret Sherry collection, and is coloured with Promarkers.  When I first read the challenge last Saturday this was the stamp which first came to mind and on Sunday, when I read the following quote in my new Stampin' up catalogue, I decided I wanted to use them both on the project.

I thought it fitted the image perfectly and you can take the meaning to two different levels.  This card is going to be for one of my crafty friends who celebrates her birthday in December.  Amongst the two local craft groups I attend there are five ladies with birthdays in December so it's good to get ahead of the game especially when there are Christmas cards to get to grips with too.  There must be a creative trait in those born under the Sagitarious and Capricorn signs. 

In both these groups I'm well known for using up every space available on a card and adding as many embellishments as possible and this has now become a recognised technique.  When one of them starts to add extra embellishments to their cards or perhaps they make a more elaborate card than usual they refer to it as "Doing a Liz".  I just can't stop myself and actually love the challenge of seeing what I can use from my stash to make a card.  With this card I think I've lost my way a bit and don't feel it quite comes together.

As well as making this one for the PBSC I've also taken inspiration from two other challenge blogs, Cupcake Inspirations Challenge and The Pink Elephant Challenge, which explains the pink and green colour scheme.

The butterflies, quilled rosebuds and pricking on the white scalloped nestabilities diecuts were also inspired by the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge.  The peeloff butterflies were attached to acetate, cut out and then the wings folded back so that they added some dimension when they were attached to the card.  There are also small punched butterflies and butterflies embossed on the white corners.  On the opposite corners I managed to use the Hero Arts Canvas Stripe backgound stamp which is my favourite at the moment.  Along with sequins from my stash the daisies, leaves and quilled rosebuds were created using punches.
