Penny Black Saturday Challenge Week 195 - Sing-A-Long

 

This is my entry to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this week which is Sing-a-long.  This is the card I made for my crafting buddy Carol who is celebrating her sixtieth birthday today.  It's at Carol's house that a group of us meet most Tuesdays for our Crafting Bee and to repay her generosity and kindness we helped her family so that they could organise a surprise party for her on Saturday.  During the day it was arranged that a group of us would go to Ruth's house so that she and Carol could teach us how to make Easter cards and gifts using Stampin' up products.  This gave her family the time and space to set up the party for her.   

My Sing-a long song for this card would be "Oh Carol" by Neil Sedaka.  Here's my version of it to fit our Carol though.

Oh Carol, we really had you fooled

with our lies and our scheming

over your eyes the wool was pulled

we plotted, we planned and worked it out

what was really needed

so you wouldn't be about.

The deception, oh how it came together

your friends and your family

couldn't have done it any better

your face, it really was a sight

as the party poppers cracked off

it gave you such a fright.

Oh Carol, we hope you'll soon forgive us

we just wanted you to celebrate

with very little fuss

We hope, this surprise has let you know

how much your friendship means to us

and how we love you so.

The main image on the card is from the Penny Black stamp "Bountiful" and is coloured with Promarkers and shimmer paints.  The layout for this card came from another PBSC, Domi's Case It challenge, in March.  The base card and layers were cut using scalloped circle Grand Calibur and Nestabilities Label four dies.  The backing papers are from the Cuddly Buddly download A Patchwork of Papers Red and the chocolate and red pearlescent card were from the Papeterie.  From Stampin' up I used their Real Red ribbon, Chocolate Chip and Riding Hood Red ink and a sentiment from the Sincere Salutations stamp set.  Woodware punches were used to make the daisies and an X-cut punch for the label attached to the bouquet with Carol's name on it.

To finish it off I made an envelope for the card and a matching gift tag for her pressie.  A group of us are going out for tea with Carol tonight before heading off to the theatre to see Elaine C Smith perform in the Susan Boyle Story.  Hope you have a lovely day Carol.  I've had a message from her this morning to say that her tonsils are exercised and ready for a singing session tonight.  Earplugs are at the ready.

Pearl Anniversary

 

Tomorrow is the thirtieth wedding anniversary of my cousin and her husband and this is the card I've made for them. I made this card layout several times last year, for anniversaries and weddings and in various colour combinations, but I never tire of putting together this "elegant shoe" from a template designed by Coppernob.  Although time consuming to make, the end result is really effective.

The flower embellishments are made using a quilling pattern I found in a Craft Creations project for a rose basket.  I use a one inch and a half inch punch to make them. Lots of different techniques are used to make this card including one of the first ones I used when starting to make cards - Ornare paper pricking.

The base card is white pearlised card but the matting layers are a mixture of matt and linen off white/cream card.  The rose patterned card is from Kanban.  Mother of pearl styled sequins, self adhesive pearls, pearl beads, cream satin ribbon and silver peel offs were used as embellishments.  A PSX stamp was used to stamp and emboss the sentiment on to the sole of the shoe with Stampendous detail silver embossing powder.

I was Alison and Colin's bridesmaid that day thirty years ago and I can truly say I have never again felt so glamourous as I did that day, not even on my own wedding day.  We went off in the morning and had our hair done.  Mine was swept back at one side with a lovely corsage added matching our navy blue dresses.  We then went off and had a facial and our make up applied.  I'd never had any kind of treatment before so this was a lovely experience.   It's difficult to believe that thirty years have passed since.

This is the box I've made to send the card in and now I must look for a sturdy box for both to be protected as they wing their way to Inverness.  Hope they have a lovely day however they celebrate.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge 194 - Easter Eggstravaganza

 

This is my entry to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this week which is "Easter Eggstravaganza".  I usually only make Easter cards for my nephew and niece and because their cards have already been made and posted I decided to make something a bit different with an Easter theme.  My inspiration came from a posting on Lisa's blog Wishcraft where she'd made a Mother's Day book card and had supplied the link to where she had found a tutorial to make it.  The picture above is the front of the book card and here is the back. 

The main image on the front of the card is from the Penny Black stamp "bunny bouquet" and is coloured with Promarkers.  The pink ribbon and pale pink card is from Stampin' up's Pretty in Pink collection and the dark pink card is from the Papeterie.  The printed backing paper came from a DCWV Spring Stack of 12" x 12" papers.  To cut the mats for layering I used dies from both the regular Nestabilities and Grand Calibur Labels Four sets.  Quickutz dies were used to cut the bunnies and the corners.

 

This is what the book card looks like on the inside. The verse is one I found using the internet and then tweeked it to this final version.  Martha Stewart's lace border punch was used to make the border strips for the frame and also the band on the front of the card.  There is another little bunny hiding underneath the bag of chocolate eggs.  A Woodware small daisy punch was used to make the flowers and a few pearls and some crystal dot peel offs were added to finish it all off.

I really enjoyed trying this project and can see how easily it could be adapted for any theme or celebration.

An Old Rocker

 

It's my brother-in-law's birthday tomorrow and this is the card I've made for him.  Andy loves rock music and as a young lad was involved in a group and in recent years he and and a few friends have got together to form a group again.  Andy plays guitar, sings and writes his own pieces.  Although he has a few favourite rock bands his number one must be ACDC and only last month he travelled with friends to see them perform in Inverness.

The main image is called Rock Dude from KennyKdownloads and is coloured using Promarkers.  As soon as I saw this image I immediately thought of Andy and had to get it for his birthday card.  He doesn't quite have the long hair but I have seen pictures of him wearing a long blonde wig when dressed to go to a sixties themed party.  Because this image is so bold I didn't feel the card needed many embellishments so just Quickutz die cut corners and tabs along with some brads were added.  The backing papers were taken from the DCWV The Rockstar Stack and the sentiment is from the Stampin' up Sincere Salutations stamp set and stamped using their Chocolate Chip ink.  The sentiment was cut and layered using oval nestabilities dies

On the reverse of the fold back I've attached the lyrics from a Byrds song.
