Flower Wreath for a Friend

At the start of last month it was Carol's birthday and those favourite Marianne dies came out again to make the stitched flowers and leaves and rolled roses on her card.  Carol is our host for the Tuesday crafting group and she opens her craft room each Tuesday for us to meet from early afternoon till bedtime.  Some come for the afternoon, some for the evening, some stay the duration and enjoy Carol's soup and Heather's pudding from Costco and some go home for tea and come back.  We all contribute with cakes to have with the cuppas and often there are some fine home bakes.  Sandy's tea bread and banana loaf are favourites.

The patterned papers for this one were from the Nitwit Collections Promises and Snow Princess Solids and the coloured card and embellishments used were chosen to tone with these.  This design was inspired by the floral wreaths I've seen made using kits from Craftworks Cards and was also the layout used for my Mother's Day card this year.

Marianne dies along with an X-cut small flower punch and one inch circles cut and rolled like the roses were used to make the flowers and their layers.  The paler lilac rolled roses were sponged with Encore purple metallic ink to create shading and on top of this a Sakura clear glitter gel pen was used to leave a dew effect.  The wreath was built on to circles of card, cut from the same colours as used for the flowers, using Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities. Once assembled it was then attached to the centre of the card using 3D foam.

The sentiment in the middle was stamped using the Special Her set of stamps from Anna Marie Designs.  The wording was stamped using VesaMark ink and embossed using Stampendous Pruple Metallic embossing powder and then FRIEND was stamped using Stampin' up's Baja Breeze ink.

As well as there being stitched flowers and leaves a stitched border was added to the backing layers to compliment this and frame the floral wreath.  A lilac grosgrain ribbon wrap and bow, purple metallic brads, peel-offs and self adhesive pearls were the added embellishments for this card.

At our crafting meet two weeks ago Carol had very exciting news to tell us as she is due to become a Grandma later this year.  There was great excitement amongst the family that day as Kenny and Amanda gave the go ahead for the news to be officially announced following the twelve week scan of their baby.  Carol's head is already whirling with baby thoughts and plans.  Lovely news for all of them.

Hope you're enjoying the holiday weekend.  Sunshine and showers here but feeling warmer.  Thanks for reading today.
