Penny Black Saturday Challenge 189 - Pearls and Lace


This is my entry for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this week which is Pearls and Lace and the inspiration for the layout came from the challenge over at The Sketchy Challenge.

 

Although I haven't actually got any lace on this one there are a few paper lace elements instead.  It was the lace background card from Kanban which decided the colour scheme for this card.  The matching lace flowers were made using the Hero Arts stamp Lace Flowers and Stampin up inks Melon Mambo and Baja Breeze which couldn't have been a better match. After being stamped, cut out, ink sponged around the edges to hide the white cutting edges the flowers were then layered.  The Melon Mambo ink was too bright so I stamped on to a piece of scrap paper first and took the second impression for the flower.  Stampin up Marina Mist card, Rose Red ribbon and the Birthday Wishes sentiment from the Sincere Salutations stamp set were also used on this card.

Around the main image is a lace border made using Martha Stewart's lace border punch.  After creating a border strip little snips were made in to it so that it would pleat and fit around the circle.  The same punch was used to edge the border strip behind the main image.

For the pearl element of the challenge I added pink pearl clusters to the centres of some of the blue flowers and single white pearls to other parts of the card.  The smaller flowers were punched using and X-cut small flower punch and the bright blue paper roses are from Wild Orchid Crafts.
 

Mice Day is the Penny Black image I chose for this challenge and it is coloured with Promarkers.  To link in with the sewing theme I cut cotton reels and needles in matching card using Quickutz dies.  A few brads, sewing thread and peel off dots finished this one off.
