Penny Black Saturday Challenge 190 - Sketch

 

This is my entry to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this week which was one of Nat's sketches to follow.  I'd been wanting to enter the Penny Black and More at Allsorts challenge too so decided to make a card to fit them both.

I had a pack of masculine papers from Dovecraft which fitted the Kraft, Blue and Green colour challenge and I chose the Penny Black stamp Dressed Up to go with them as one of the papers had ties on it.  The problem was what could I use to represent the flower spray embellishment across the corner of the sketch.  I had intended to use a mix of real and die cut buttons but whilst looking for the buttons die I found a pennant die and decided to use that instead to personalise the card for a special "0" birthday.  Two grand-nephews turn thirty this year so this will be set aside for one of them.  Quickutz dies were used for the pennants, letters, numbers and fasteners.

   
The main image was stamped with Stampin' up's Chocolate Chip ink and coloured with Promarkers.  Chocolate Chip ink was also sponged around the edges of the image before distressing them.  I've discovered that if I run the edge of a piece of card between the prongs of a fork it will give a distressed effect. The sentiment from Stampin' up's set Sincere Salutations was also stamped using Chocolate Chip ink.  Encore Metallic Blue ink was sponged around the pennants, scalloped card and fasteners.

I really liked this sketch and will probably use it again to make cards with other co-ordinating paper packs I have. Can't believe I made a male card though, the second one this week, and passed up the opportunity to go mad with flower embellishments.
